⭐ MixMatched Creations: Kids Beginner Art Program

6-Week Foundational Art & Creativity Series

Program Dates: January 22 – February 26, 2026

Ages: 6–12

Day/Time: Thursdays at 4:00 PM

Location: ____________________

This six-week art program teaches real art concepts in a fun, confidence-building way.

Each week students explore a new artistic skill — blending, shapes, mixed media, depth, color theory, and texture — while creating beautiful take-home projects they will be proud of.

Every class builds on the previous week while still being beginner-friendly and joyful.

⭐ WEEK 1 — January 22

ā€œCreative Freedom: Blending & Backgroundsā€

Skills Learned:

• How to blend acrylic paint using only a brush

• How to create smooth transitions between colors

• Expressive painting without rules

• Creative confidence

Project:

Students will paint a fully blended background and then add any subject of their choice on top.

This week emphasizes freedom, self-expression, and getting comfortable with paint before structured lessons begin.

āø»

⭐ WEEK 2 — January 29

ā€œArt With Shapes: Building a Birdā€

Skills Learned:

• How to break down complex images into simple shapes

• Visual planning

• Cutting and assembling shapes

• Understanding form and proportion

Project:

Students paint a blended background, then create an adorable bird by assembling simple cut-out shapes.

This helps kids learn that any picture — no matter how ā€œhardā€ — becomes easy when broken down step-by-step.

āø»

⭐ WEEK 3 — February 5

ā€œDepth & Distance: The Castle Pathwayā€

Skills Learned:

• Creating depth using perspective

• Drawing a simple castle using the shape method

• Painting a pathway that leads into the distance

• Using lighter colors near light sources and darker tones in the foreground

Project:

Kids paint a sunset background, draw a castle using shapes, and create a pathway that gets smaller as it moves away — learning the basics of perspective and depth in a fun, accessible way.

āø»

⭐ WEEK 4 — February 12

ā€œValentine’s Mixed Media Heart Wreathā€

Skills Learned:

• Introduction to mixed media

• Color blocking

• Warm color blending (reds, pinks, whites)

• Layering objects to create dimension

• Craftsmanship and design

Project:

Kids build a heart from cardboard, then paint individual puzzle pieces with different Valentine’s color blends.

They glue the pieces to the heart to create a 3D mixed-media wreath they can gift to someone special.

This week reinforces all painting foundations from Weeks 1–3 while teaching layering and composition.

āø»

⭐ WEEK 5 — February 19

ā€œGalaxy Art: Sponges, Stars & Constellationsā€

Skills Learned:

• Creating texture with sponges

• Blending dark + bright tones

• Using different tools for special effects (toothbrush splatter stars)

• Understanding constellations

• Fine motor dotting work

Project:

Students paint a galaxy sky using sponges, flick white stars across the canvas, and use Q-tips to create their zodiac constellation, connecting the dots with white paint.

This project feels magical and teaches several new artistic techniques.

⭐ WEEK 6 — February 26

ā€œWinter Shadows: 3D Snowman Paintingā€

Skills Learned:

• Sponge-blended backgrounds

• How shadows and highlights create dimension

• Curved surfaces + light direction

• Building a character on canvas

Project:

Kids paint a soft winter background and create a snowman while learning how shadow color makes a white object look round and 3-dimensional.

This is a perfect final project to show how far their skills have come.

šŸ“ Registration & Payment

All classes must be registered and paid for in full before the program begins in order to reserve your child’s seat.
Because class sizes are small and materials are purchased ahead of time, spots cannot be held without payment.

Registration and payment can be completed directly through my website, making it quick and easy to secure your child’s place in the upcoming session.

ā„ļø Snow Day & Weather Policy

Because this program takes place during the winter months, weather delays may occasionally happen.

If the church closes due to snow or unsafe road conditions:

  • The class will be postponed to the next available week

  • The session will shift forward by one week if needed

  • Parents will be notified by email and/or text as early as possible

šŸ§‘šŸŽØ Missed Class Policy (Child Absence)

Because each week builds on previous skills, attendance is important — but life happens.

If a child cannot attend a class:

  • They will receive the same supplies and materials used that week

  • Jess will send a simple written or video instruction so they can complete the project at home

  • Their absence will NOT affect their participation in the final showcase

  • No refunds or credits are issued for missed classes

šŸ’³ Refund Policy (Nonrefundable Program)

To secure your child’s spot and prepare materials in advance, all payments are:

šŸ”„ Nonrefundable
šŸ”„ Nontransferable
šŸ”„ Due at registration

This is extremely standard for children’s art programs because:

  • Materials are purchased ahead of time

  • Spots are limited

  • Waitlisted families cannot fill a seat last-minute

⭐ Special Circumstances Policy

MixMatched Creations understands that unexpected situations may arise.
While all registrations are nonrefundable and nontransferable, the instructor may offer a one-time class credit in certain special circumstances, including:

  • Extended medical illness

  • Emergency family situations

  • Severe weather events causing multiple cancellations

  • Any circumstance deemed appropriate by the instructor

Credits are not guaranteed and are issued solely at the discretion of the instructor.
If a credit is granted, it may be applied to a future class session only and cannot be exchanged for a refund.

This policy allows us to keep class sizes small and materials prepared while still supporting families during genuine emergencies.
